BEFORE SURGERY

NECESSARY CONSULTATIONS

After the doctor has recognized a condition, the patient may be qualified for surgery. The patient is required to have different examinations and consultations before a particular procedure can be performed.

The patient must be examined by:

  • A dentist
  • A laryngologist
  • A gynecologist (women)
  • An anesthetist

Doctor consultations help to recognize and treat possible chronic inflammatory processes which can cause infectious complications postopertively. After an anaesthetic consultation, the doctor can choose the right type of anaesthesia.

Required lab tests are:

  • Blood group
  • ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate)
  • Full blood count
  • Blood clotting test
  • Blood glucose test
  • Electrolytes
  • Urinalysis
  • C-Reactive Protein

If the results are satisfactory, the date of surgery is scheduled. The day before operation, the patient is admitted to hospital and prepared for surgery.

The patient should bring to hospital:

  • Toiletries
  • Pajamas
  • Slippers
  • Possessed orthopaedic equipment (crutches, prostheses)
  • Taken medicine
  • Things that will allow the patient to cover their basic needs, such as: glasses, contact lenses, a hearing aid, a small amount of money, a mobile phone, etc.

On the day of surgery, the patient must be on empty stomach.
